Take the Rainy River District Heath Care Survey

Health Care looks different across the District!

Where we live, how far we travel, the service is available to our communities and our experiences accessing care, all shape our healthcare experience. The people who live here understand these realities best. That’s why we’re asking residents across the Rainy River District to take part in the Rainy River District Health Care Survey.

Connected Care

The Rainy River District Ontario Health Team (RRDOHT) does not exist separate from the voices that fuel it and those that inform it.

Our district health care partners bring unique expertise, strength and perspectives to a diverse collective lens that is applied to local issues — advancing our health system to create better outcomes.

The spirit of collaboration that defines this work is captured here, reflecting the land, the people, and the links that connect us across the district. More is accomplished when efforts are aligned to improve the well-being of the people and communities we care for.

About the RRDOHT

Facilitating the design and organization of health services in local communities, the Rainy River District Ontario Health Team (RRDOHT) is a provincially funded group that facilitates connected and convenient care for people in our district.

We bring together health care providers from across health and community sectors to work as one collaborative team to shape and deliver coordinated care and share resources.
Our voices include family doctors and primary care providers, hospitals, long-term care, home and community care, long-term care, and those working in mental health and addictions services. We work together to make it easier for patients to move from one provider to another, with the goal of one patient record and one care plan shared between providers.

Questions About the Rainy River District Health Care Community Engagement Survey

  • Why should I add my voice to this campaign?

Every person's experience with health care is different, and every voice matters. By sharing your experiences, you can help identify the priorities, barriers, and successes that people across the Rainy River District have in common. Those shared themes will help guide future planning and help the Rainy River District Ontario Health Team (RRDOHT) advocate for health system improvements based on local needs.

  • What is this public engagement campaign about?

This campaign is about listening to the people who live in the Rainy River District. We want to better understand what health care looks like in our communities — what is working well, what could be improved, and what matters most to the people who use it. The survey is one way to share your voice, along with community Town Halls and future engagement opportunities.

  • Can I participate in the Town Halls if I haven’t done the survey?

Yes. We encourage all residents of the district to participate in the survey online, or by mail if needed. However, the Town Halls are open to all regardless of participation and will be opportunities for community members to share their personal experiences and patient stories in a safe environment.

  • Who is leading this work?

The engagement campaign is being led by the Rainy River District Ontario Health Team (RRDOHT). The RRDOHT brings together leaders and representatives from health care organizations across the district — including Indigenous and non-Indigenous partners — to work together to improve how care is planned, coordinated, and delivered. By working together, these organizations can better understand community needs and help shape future health care planning.

  • Who should complete the survey?

If you currently live in the Rainy River District, we encourage you to participate. Whether you use health care often, occasionally, or rarely, your experiences are important. Seasonal residents are also welcome to share their perspectives.

  • What kinds of questions will I be asked?

The survey asks about your experiences with health care, including accessing services, finding information, travelling for care, and navigating the health system. It also asks about the services and supports that matter most to you and what improvements you would like to see in the future. Some questions help us understand who is participating so we can be sure we're hearing from people across the district.

  • What happens after the survey closes?

Once the survey closes, responses will be analysed by a consulting company hired by the RRDOHT. Before those findings help guide future planning, we'll share them with the public and ask communities to help confirm that we've accurately captured what people told us. This helps ensure the voices of residents remain at the centre of the process.

  • How will my feedback be used?

The common themes, priorities, and barriers experienced across the district will be shared anonymously with the RRDOHT and its partners, and ultimately with local health care providers across the district. These findings will help inform future planning by local health care organizations and support the RRDOHT's work to advocate for improvements based on the needs identified by our communities.

  • How is my privacy protected?

Taking part in the survey is voluntary. Your responses will be kept confidential and survey findings will only be shared broadly in summary form. If you choose to provide your contact information, it will only be used for the purposes described in the survey and will never be included in public reports.

  • Why are you asking demographic questions?

The demographic questions help us understand whether we're hearing from people across the Rainy River District. They allow us to see if experiences are different between communities and groups of people, helping ensure future planning reflects the needs of the entire district. Some demographic questions are required, while others are optional, and you may skip any optional question.

  • Why are you asking for my contact information?

Providing your name, phone number, or email address is completely optional. If you choose to share this information, it may be used to contact you about future stages of this engagement or, if requested, to help connect you with the district's primary care provider waitlist or to get future updates from the RRDOHT. Your contact information will not be published or included in any public reporting.

  • Why is there a question about the primary care provider waitlist?

Many people across the Rainy River District do not currently have access to a family doctor or primary care provider. If you do not have one, we can help connect you to the district's primary care provider waitlist by filling out this question.

  • What if I have more questions?

If you have questions about the survey or the public engagement campaign, please contact the Rainy River District Ontario Health Team. We're happy to help and appreciate you taking the time to share your voice.

Rainy River District Health Care Matters

Distance Shouldn’t Decide Your Health

To better understand the health care experiences of our community members, the Rainy River District Ontario Health Team (RRDOHT) has embarked on a public campaign - Rainy River District Health Care Matters - designed to listen to the people who live here and ensure that local voices help inform future health care planning conversations across the district.

With a diverse population that spans a vast and unique geography, that is no small challenge. Including 10 municipalities and 10 First Nation communities, our district has a rich cultural tapestry and strong social cohesion but faces significant health and economic challenges.

We want to understand how all these elements affect your personal experiences and perspectives on your unique health care journey. Working with the Western Management Consulting Group, these insights will be analyzed for common themes and brought back to our community members for validation. Once we are confident we’ve accurately captured your voices, we will share our findings and recommendations with local health care providers, funding agencies and others who can contribute to positive changes.

To make sure every resident across the district has an opportunity to contribute, we’ve created multiple ways to participate. An easy-to-answer survey has launched online, and for those who need to access a paper copy, we have mailed out a copy to every household and postal box in the Rainy River District.

For in-person participation in this important sharing of experiences, you can also join us at one or more of our Town Halls scheduled for late October in four major municipalities spanning the district - Atikokan, Fort Frances, Emo, and Rainy River.

Your perspectives matter and local voices can influence health-care realities locally. Where you live should not determine the quality, timeliness, or accessibility of your health care.
